Upgrades are coming to our King Branch library!
WOOT WOOT. Thanks to local neighbors, biz owners, our Alderman and a supportive response from the community at-large, the Children’s area will be renovated at the library on 35th & King Drive. Out of over 500 submissions, we’re in the TOP 7 selected from the “Chicago Works Community Challenge” —we’re the only library selected— and will receive up to $1.5M for infrastructure improvements!
“The whole thing, but especially the kids area is in DIRE need of an upgrade. The nice librarians do a good job of keeping it clean, but the families of Bronzeville deserve better than old posters and empty shelves.”
— Calumet ave. resident, Bronzeville

let’s go from this…
to this:
We did it!
The City hosted an online community session for our region (Douglas) on Nov. 9th, 2021.
The other two projects in the running for funding were:
• A new school playground in Armour Square
• A garden upgrade in the West Loop
Our library proposal is the only semifinalist in our region submitted by one individual (not an org with staff or multiple people working on it ) so thank you to all who helped spread the word and vote!
Just Imagine…
At 35th & King Drive: A refreshed, respectable safe space for parents and youth to gather as a community where we meet, learn, and have enriching connections—despite the weather! If you live, own property or run a biz in Bronzeville, Lake Meadows, Prairie Shores, The Gap, etc. this is for you!
People still use libraries! Let’s at least get our babies and caretakers of little ones an updated local resource to thrive in.
